From spreadsheets and manual processes to a sports platform built to evolve
More than fifteen years supporting Ruta 36 through different technology stages, from its first custom management platform to the reconstruction of a more reliable and scalable system.
Context
Ruta 36 has been working with Pulsart since 2008. At the time, much of the management of matches, results and content depended on manual processes and Excel files. We developed its first custom PHP management platform, centralizing those tasks and supporting the project for approximately ten years. Years later, the client started a new development stage with another team and a completely different platform.
Problem
Ruta 36 eventually contacted us again after the new system became increasingly difficult to maintain. The platform had visible bugs, but the larger issue was architectural: duplicated players, inconsistencies in the administration panel and dependencies that caused seemingly simple changes to break other parts of the website. The challenge was no longer just fixing bugs. The platform needed to become reliable enough to evolve again.
What we did
We first analyzed the existing platform to understand which parts could be preserved and which needed to be redesigned. We stabilized key administrative processes, corrected operational issues and began restructuring the areas responsible for recurring failures. From there, we approached the next stage with a clearer architecture, more consistent data structures and processes that can evolve without affecting unrelated parts of the platform.
Architecture / solution
The new approach separates data management from the public presentation layer. Categories, teams, players, matches and results are managed from a consistent central structure and then distributed automatically throughout the website. This reduces duplication, limits unnecessary dependencies and makes structural changes safer.
